The 5 Benefits of Zumba

Zumba is a Latin inspired fitness program that has become a worldwide sensation and has become very popular in the U.S. The reasons Zumba has become so popular are because it's a fun fitness program, there are no complicated moves, and the steps are easy to follow. Zumba is so fun and addictive it's like your at a "fitness party" instead of your typical aerobics class. Since its official introduction in 2001, Zumba has become the world's largest and most successful dance fitness program.

The History of Zumba

Zumba was created by Columbian aerobic instructor Alberto Perez in the mid 1990s. It was created by accident when Perez forgot his traditional aerobics music for his fitness class. He had no choice but to use his personal music which consisted of salsa and merengue. He had to quickly improvise and come up with new dance steps to go with the music. The class loved the new fitness program and it quickly became the most popular class at the fitness center. Perez had no idea his happy accident would become so popular. He decided to bring it to the U.S. in Miami, Fl. Perez met up with two entrepreneurs named Alberto Perlman and Alberto Aghion. All three had a goal of making Zumba a worldwide brand. Their persistence paid off and they were able to successful achieve that goal.

The Benefits of Zumba

Despite the simplicity of Zumba, many participants have received several benefits from the dance fitness program.

Some of the benefits people have received from Zumba are:

1) Relieves Stress
2) Tones your body
3) Full body workout
4) For all ages
5) Increased happiness

If you are interested in being apart of a Zumba "fitness party", attend a local class or check out any of Zumba's instructional DVDs.
